Firewise | Programs
On average, Benton County experiences 14 wildfires a year over 100 acres according to the Benton County Wildfire Protection Plan. Homeowners can take important steps to increase the home's likelihood of surviving a wildfire.
In 2008 the Fire Wise Community Program was extended to the Benton County through the Benton Conservation District. The BCD provides the technical support, planning materials, and organizational needs to community members to help protect their neighbors and themselves.
Careful Firewise planning, landscaping and maintenance saved these buildings during a wildfire.
The BCD will help in:
- Creating applications for "Firewise" communities
- Conducting individual home and site assessments
- Introducing new techniques to land owners
- Technical Support to communities wishing to become "Firewise" communities
